Mount Snow Region events

Valley Lights ~ Dover, Whitingham, Wilmington

Come get involved in a Valley wide, community event to brighten up our Winter Nights!  We invite everyone; individuals, families, organizations, and businesses to recycle their tin cans and make luminaries out of them. We will use them to decorate the Valley throughout the winter.

* December 8^th, Downtown Wilmington. With your help, we are hoping to light 1,000 cans during the Village Stroll.  Drop off 1:00-4:00 at Memorial Hall.

* December 28^th hot chocolate and town lighting.  Keep making those cans!  We’ll store each town’s cans and add some more so each participating town can create their own display to light on this night.

* Fridays, January 4^th-February 16.  We encourage you to take back your cans and create your own display at your house or business.  Any can not picked up by 12:00 noon December 30^th will be available for others to use in their display.  Let’s light up the valley every Friday night.

    How to make a can luminary

1)      Fill a tin can with water ¾ inch from top and freeze.  2) Draw a design on can.

 3) Use a hammer and nail to punch a design in can. 4) Let ice melt, dump out water.  5) Write your name and town in permanent marker on bottom of can.  Add a candle.

*** There are many variations possible.  Use different tools to make other shapes.  Add a wire to make them hang.  Paint the can.  Be creative!
