March Offers Longer Days, Excellent Conditions, Short Lift Lines

WEST DOVER, Vermont - Many New Englanders spend the month of March dreaming of budding flowers and backyard barbeques. But the wise skier or snowboarder knows that March offers some of the most ideal conditions of the season. The days are longer, the temperatures are warmer and the lift lines are shorter.

“As you get into March, you’re bound to have sunny days near 60 degrees,” said Mount Snow’s director of mountain operations, Dave Moulton. “But you can get a 2-foot snowstorm just as easily. Either way, you win.”

Moulton added that base depths are typically at their peak in March. At the time of this release, over 10 feet of natural snow has piled up at Mount Snow. Copious amounts of manmade snow, produced by the mountain’s 251 fan guns, have been stockpiled on Premium trails and visitors will find excellent coverage lasting well into spring.

Season passholders have no blackout dates in March. 2009/2010 season passes go on sale March 14 – those who make the purchase and do not own a current pass will ski or ride the rest of this season free.

The final Youth Pay Their Age Day of the season is March 8, when 6 to 18-year-olds pay their age for a lift ticket. As always, children 5 and under ski free.
To entice skiers and riders to the March experience, Mount Snow is making its popular $72 Ski and Stay Package available through April 12. Visitors can book the package, which includes a midweek lift ticket and a night of lodging on the mountain, on mountsnow.com or by calling 800-498-0479.

March also hosts some of Mount Snow’s most crowd-pleasing events.
• March 20 – 22. The Freeski Open, featuring pro freeskiers in slopestyle and superpipe competitions.
• March 27 – 29. Bud Light Reggaefest. Live reggae bands performing on the slopes and at the Snow Barn.
• March 28. The Sink or Skim pond skimming competition. Watch daring skiers and riders skim across our manmade pond to win a 2009/2010 season pass.
• March 29. The Duct Tape Derby sled race. Sleds made of cardboard and duct tape are judged on style, speed and creativity in this raucous race down Charlie’s Chase.
• April 4. Winter Brewer’s Festival. Celebrate the end of winter with New England’s top breweries and live music.
