Southern Vermont Holiday Gift Guide

The holidays are quickly approaching, and you know what that means? Time to shop, because let’s be honest you probably didn't do your shopping back in September like you said you would. If you’re anything like me then you are struggling to figure out what to buy your mom, dad, cousin, neighbor, and everyone else on your list. I like to put a little more thought into Christmas gifts, anyone can ‘buy with 1-click’ via Amazon; which is why I stopped at a few local businesses in the Valley to see what I could find for those special people in my life.

Stores with (*) are participating in Shop Local, sponsored by Wilmington Works. The campaign runs until December 24.

*For a dad, uncle, or history buff: Bartleby’s
The book on the left is a leather bound, numbered, signed, collector’s edition book. The book on the right comes highly recommended for anyone interested in the history of trains. These books are just among the many
treasures that any book worm would love.

*For anyone: Boyd Family Farm
As soon as I walked into the tent setup behind Boyd Family Farm I instantly got in the holiday spirit. The local Wilmington elves were hard at work hand making greens, wreaths, kissing balls, and everything else you can imagine making out of Evergreen Trees.

For the skier: First Trax
We are looking forward to a very snowy winter, full of skiing, snowboarding, and many other winter sports. First Trax has a great selection of skis for adults that come in a variety of colors and sizes (because we all want to look good coming down the mountain).

*For the craft beer drinker (or yourself, no judgement): Ratu's
Ratu’s has a great selection of local craft beers on tap and bottled, which work great in gift baskets (or to drink yourself). You can also find mini bottles (just in case), liquor, wine, and a helpful staff, just in case you don’t know what it is you’re looking for! Their Instagram makes me want to become a craft beer enthusiast.

*For your mom: Beyond Imagination
She works hard year round, always puts you before herself, and probably hasn’t had a chance to buy any new clothes for herself recently. Beyond Imagination has a great selection of women’s clothing. The staff will work with you to give the perfect gift. They also do custom interior designing, if your home needs a makeover.

*For your sister or best friend: Village Roost
From handmade ornaments to handmade snow globes, the Village Roost is the perfect place to stop for your locally made crafts. The ornaments are perfect to tie on the outside of a present!

For anyone local: Owl’s Nest
Owl’s Nest’s wood benches are a great edition to any yard, household, or office! These benches are one of a kind, hand made, and completely customizable. Since they aren’t easy to ship, they would make a great gift for someone who lives local. We also have two benches for sale at a discounted price at the Chamber in Wilmington!

For a new mom: Eco-Tique
This shop in Dover is full of locally made, organic, eco-friendly products. Though they have just about something for everyone, the bibs and beauty products would make wonderful gifts for a new mom!

For the person who has everything: River Valley Market
Walking into River Valley Market instantly gave me a great idea for a holiday gift; creating a gift basket full of local Vermont products. Their selction of wine, chocolate, and cheese, it's sure to please anyone's palettes. They are also selling bird feeders in the shape of wreaths to benefit the Rotary Club. I bought one to bring as a hostess gift!

*For the Foodie: Adams Family Farm
The meat at Adams Farm is all locally raised without hormones or antibiotics, making it the prime choice for any (meat eating) foodie. They are doing custom holiday orders, and have a great selection of various types and cuts of meats.

For the artsy one: Jim McGrath Gallery
Jim is not only one of my favorite artists but also one of my favorite people in the valley. His smaller oil paintings are affordable and painted right in his studio in Wilmington! He paints local scenery, and each piece is one of a kind.

Stocking Stuffers: Hogback Mountain Gift Shop
One of my favorite parts about Christmas is the stocking stuffers! Hogback Gift Shop has 10,000 different items under $25, making it the perfect place to pick up your local, Vermont products!

For the chef: Vermont Bowl Company
The selection of products makes me wish I actually enjoyed cooking! The locally hand made wooden bowls come in a wide variety of styles and colors.

For the collector: Tallulah’s
Looking for a one-of-a-kind gift? This is your place to go, with an array of antiques there are so many great things for your home here! Don’t worry… they do offer gift certificates if you can’t decide. They also carry local Vermont maple syrup and sheep soap that feels incredible.

Shopping local not only helps out our local buisnesses in the valley but it also gives you the opportunity to give memorable one of a kind gifts.
Happy Holidays and Happy Shopping!
