Vermont Youth Project
The Deerfield Valley Community Partnership and Wings Community Programs is exploring the possibility of implementing the Vermont Youth Project in our community. The goal of the project is to create a community where all youth feel connected and a sense of belonging; feel their voices are heard; that they are valued; and that they all have access to activities that they are passionate about. The more these factors are true for our youth, the more likely they are to be happy and successful and the less likely to be involved in risky behaviors. This can only happen if all sectors of the community including businesses, schools, churches, media, healthcare, law enforcement, civic groups, etc. come together to make this happen!
Our most recent Youth Risk Behavior Survey (2019) shows that only half of our middle and high school students in the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union agree or strongly agree that in their community they feel like they matter to people.
36% of our high school students and 26% of our middle school students in the Windham Southwest Supervisory Union felt so sad or hopeless almost every day for at least two weeks during the past 12 months that they stopped doing some usual activities.
Please join us to learn more about the Vermont Youth Project and how it might fit into our communities.
