Join the Hungry Lion Bike Tour for Cycling at its Best!
Do you love to bike? Then mark your calendar for Saturday, September 29 and get ready for some serious fun!
The Hungry Lion Bike Tour, now in its 7th year, is the Deerfield Valley’s premier cycling event, featuring five different rides through beautiful New England countryside. Riders will roll through small towns, farms and landscapes filled with glorious fall foliage. Along the way, you’ll enjoy rest stops stocked with granola bars, fruit, nuts, energy drinks and more to keep you nourished and hydrated for the journey.
As for distance, you can choose from 5, 25 35, 50 and 75-mile tours, so there’s something for pretty much everyone. You elite cyclists will have TWO great choices this year: the 75 mile road ride – certainly challenging – or the NEW “Gravel Grinder” ride, featuring 25 miles of challenging backloads cycling.
OK, now let’s get to the nitty-gritty. This is Vermont ... and Vermont has hills ... so each ride has some level of elevation. If you’re a newbie to biking, we recommend the 5-mile ride.
Average riders who are reasonably fit should have no difficulties with the 25 and 35 milers. Yes, there’s one humungous hill– but if uphill riding isn’t your thing, just hop on the Hungry Lion’s “elevator” truck and it will deliver you and your bike to the summit. Then continue on your merry way.
At the end of your Hungry Lion Bike Tour, you’re going to be tired, happy and proud. So celebrate! The Whitingham-Halifax Lions (sponsors of the HLBT) will greet you at the finish with a barbecue feast, live music, a keg of beer, and plenty of snacks.
It’s a party for you – and you deserve it! You’ll also receive a few free goodies, and maybe pick up one of many excellent prizes donated by Valley businesses.
We’ve saved the best part of the Hungry Lion Bike Tour for last. Because this amazing day of fun is actually a serious fundraiser that helps local people in need. All HLBT proceeds go directly to community initiatives such as the Whitingham- Halifax Lions Holiday Food Program, the Deerfield Valley Food Shelf, the Gathering Place for seniors, vision testing in schools, and others.
So join us! Register now to ride. And ask your family, friends, or employer to sponsor you! (Note: Cyclists who raise more than $250 will qualify for a beautiful cycling jersey designed exclusively for us!)
