SUMMARY:The Power of Mythology in Creative Life
DESCRIPTION:WILLIAMSVILLE The Rock River Players hosts mythologist Allison Stieger for a lecture entitled “The Power of Mythology in Creative Life” on Thursday\, March 26\, in Williamsville\, Vermont. \nWith a Masters in Mythological Studies in Depth Psychology and experience with the Joseph Campbell Foundation\, Stieger\, a recent transplant to Windham County from Seattle\, has been a working mythologist for over 20 years.\nMost of Stieger’s work has been lecturing and teaching on how mythology can enrich and inform creative life and thus she says\, she’s “delighted to bring that expertise to the local creative community.”\n“We are thrilled to provide Allison a local platform to share her intellectual and creative spark\,” says Amy Donahue\, Artistic Director of the Rock River Players. “Whether you’re a performer\, a writer—or you simply find creativity in daily life\, her work offers a unique and enriching way to look at the roots of the deeply human call to create—and to connect with one another through art and the stories we tell.”\nStieger explains that “the evening will include a lecture on the lessons we can learn from the world’s most ancient stories. These stories have lasted and resonated with humans for millennia. Therein are things that the ancients were trying to teach us about connection\, the joys and pains of making art\, how to share what we’ve learned\, and how we’ve grown with our audience.”\n“If you’re a creator in any capacity\,” Donahue adds\, “the expertise Allison offers will make you better at it. We hope you can join us for an evening of new insights\, laughter\, and community in creation.”\nThe lecture is free\, but a collection will be taken to benefit the Rock River Players and the Williamsville Hall. Whatever is raised by donation will be matched by Stieger up to $500. A question and answer session will follow\, as will a chance to socialize.\nThe lecture will be live-streamed\, and will coincide with the launch date of Stieger’s new online class\, “The Power of Mythology in Creative Life\,” available on Stieger’s website\, www.mythicstories.com\, at the conclusion of the lecture. The March 26 event starts at 7pm in the Williamsville Hall\, 35 Dover Rd.\, Williamsville.

SUMMARY:Rock River Players presents "No Kings Cabaret"
DESCRIPTION: Description:\nWILLIAMSVILLE   The Rock River Players (RRP) present a No Kings Cabaret Fri. and Sat.\, January 23 and 24 at 7 PM and Sunday\, January 25 at 3 PM at the Williamsville Hall\, 35 Dover Road\, Williamsville.\nProducer Annie Landenberger notes that “the cabaret\, with deep roots in France and Germany in the late 19th through early 20th century\, has historically been a trend-setting form of entertainment featuring a variety of performance styles that’s typically enjoyed from small café tables—which we’ll have.\n“Cabarets are usually adult focused with a heavy dose of subversion.” Landenberger adds: “They’ve been a hotbed of creative energy for well over a century\, offering out-of-the-box perspective and material. With a collection of scenes\, songs\, satire\, and surprises—and in keeping with the essence of the cabaret—the RRP evening promises laughs\, epiphanies\, pleasures\, and provocations.”\nThis year the RRP annual cabaret will be infused with the satirical spine of the No Kings movement\, but “rest assured\,” says Landenberger: “there’ll be lots of laughs and love.”\nThis year’s Players’ cabaret features Kay Beckett\, Jonathan Benney\, Tino Benson\, Peter Broussard\, Walter Cramer\, Shafiya Finger\, Sean Fitzharris\, Eden Gorst\, Sue Kelly\, Alex Lacey\, Annie Landenberger\, Randy Lichtenwalner\, Jon Mack\, Stewart McDermet\, Cherie Moran\, John Moran\, Nick Morgan\, John Ogorzalek\, Jeff Seabaugh\, Dawn Slade\, T. Breeze Verdant\, Rose Watson\, and Rev. Yolanda. Dan DeWalt is accompanist. Jess Guerrero is on lights.\nAmong several acts on the program will be songs by a variety of composers including Tom Lehrer\, Phil Ochs\, Jonathan Larson\, Craig Carnelia\, Lin-Manuel Miranda\, Bob Dylan\, Stephen Schwartz\, Kander and Ebb\, and Howard Crabtree. There’ll be a short improvisation set\, original satire\, revived satires\, “news” clips\, and excerpts from Sinclair Lewis’ scathing novel\, It Can’t Happen Here.\nSpecial guest Rev. Yolanda\, a Windham-based trans femme gender queer singer/songwriter/performance artist and interfaith minister\, will perform “I Pledge Allegiance to Myself\,” about the power of loving oneself completely.\nAdmission is $15pp; seating is at café tables\, cabaret style. Various expertly-prepared home baked goods will be available by donation. Cabaret goers are invited to bring whatever beverages they wish. For reservations visit rockriverplayers.org and for more information email verbatimvt@gmail.com.
