Foliage Tracker
Fall’s foliage season is one of the most magical times to visit Southern Vermont. Check back here for regular updates on the status of foliage in the area.
Update Thursday, October 16, 2025

Foliage season has mostly passed in Southern Vermont’s higher elevations, with the vibrant reds, oranges, and golds of peak color now carpeting the ground. In the Deerfield Valley, most of the leaves have fallen, leaving behind the stark beauty of bare branches and the occasional tree still hanging on to its late-turning hues. The once-fiery hillsides around Wilmington and Dover have quieted, signaling the end of peak season in the mountains, but not the end of the show entirely.
Lower elevations, such as Brattleboro and the surrounding valleys, are just beginning to reach their peak. A drive along Route 9 offers a stunning transition—from the bare ridgelines of the Green Mountains to the unfolding color at lower altitudes. It’s a perfect time for a scenic day trip, with stops in towns like Wilmington and Dover where you can enjoy cozy cafés, local shopping, and hearty autumn meals. The season may be winding down up high, but there’s still plenty of charm left to enjoy!
