Vermont Independent Media, Inc. (VIM) was established as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2005. VIM’s founders envisioned a forum for community participation that would build media skills among residents, students, and the disenfranchised. 

The organizational structure of VIM reflects the best practices of nonprofit, cooperative enterprises, including a Board of Directors, an Advisory Board and a progressive workplace environment.

VIM is the umbrella organization for The Commons newspaper, the Deerfield Valley News, and the Media Mentoring Project.
