Foliage in Southern Vermont
As summer begins winding down and kids go back to school the first of the leaves begin changing color in Southern Vermont meaning only one thing – fall foliage is right around the corner! The Deerfield Valley boasts magnificent scenery all year long and those views are only accentuated further with the bright autumn colors.
Stay up to date with the current state of foliage season and time your trip perfectly with our Foliage Tracker.
Here are our favorite locations to check out during foliage season:
Hogback Mountain

Hogback Mountain is located about 5 miles away from the center of Wilmington and the lookout spot is known for the 1,000 mile view! Also located at the top of the mountain is the Hogback Mountain Country Store, Metcalfe’s Distillery & Beer Naked Brewery! Enjoy the view while sipping a local beverage or enjoying some maple ice cream!
Haystack Mountain

Hike to the top of Haystack Mountain & enjoy the local foliage! The Haystack Mountain trail is 2.5 miles to the summit & you can see the Deerfield Valley on all sides.
Harriman Reservoir

There’s nothing quite like enjoying the vibrant fall foliage from the water at Harriman Reservoir, where the mirror-like surface reflects a stunning panorama of fiery reds, golden yellows, and rich oranges. Whether cruising in comfort with a rental from Island Jet Ski Vermont or High Country Marine, or gliding quietly in a canoe or on a paddle board from Paddle Time VT, the experience is both peaceful and unforgettable. Surrounded by the beauty of the Green Mountains, the reservoir offers you a front-row seat to Vermont’s autumn brilliance, making it the perfect way to soak in the season.
Foliage Golfing
Golfing in the valley during foliage is a must for all golfers! Our two local public courses, Haystack Golf Club & Mount Snow Golf Club have amazing views on every hole!
