Hopper/Money Brook to Mount Greylock

Hopper/Money Brook to Mount Greylock

Total Distance: 11 Miles

Hiking Time 1-2 days

Vertical Rise: 3,050 Feet

Difficulty: Strenuous

A loop around the peak, from base to summit, experiences the full range of the mountain, including old-growth forest, spattering waterfalls and soaring vistas.

The hike makes a complete circuit of the mountain. From the mountain’s west base, you enter a broad ravine known as ‘Hopper’, which scoops deeply into the west flanks of the mountain. The journey travels along a burblling stream, falls, and then reaches Wilbur Clearing Shelter near the summit ridge. Here you join the Appalachian Trail as it follows the wooded ridgeling over the developed summit, passing several side trails that plummet eastward to reach two other overnight options: Bellows Pipe and Gould Brook shelters. The journey then returns to the Hopper, descending to the trailhead through an old-growth forest of sugar maple and white ash. Dogs are permitted, but must be leashed at trailheads, the summit, and in the Sperry Road campground.

The trailhead is located on Hopper Road in Williamstown MA. From Route 7 traveling North take a right at the five corners store in South Williamstown. Follow the Green River Road for a few miles and take a right across a bridge at Mt Hope Park onto Hopper Road. Follow this road past Bresset Road, you will see signs for the trailhead and hiking. Parking is near a farm at the end of the road about 2.8 miles from Green River Road.
